While the Obama liberal agenda is collapsing, Republicans must not get complacent. The only thing that matters is winning elections and governing. The Super Bowl winner gets a trophy and a parade. The loser gets garbage. Politics is no different. There is winning, and there is garbage. President Obama has used his 2012 election victory to ruthlessly punish those who did not vote for him. He treats half the country like garbage, and the only way to fight back against a man who is basically a bully is to win the 2014 and 2016 elections.
“Elections have consequences” is what liberals crowed about 2008 and 2012 (while neglecting 2010). They need to be reminded of this going forward.
2014 and 2016 are two separate elections requiring two very different strategies.
In 2014, Republicans and conservatives must hammer the daylights out of Obama on a daily basis. When liberals complain that Republicans are obstructing everything he is trying to do, it is because he is wrong about everything he is trying to do.
Republicans do not need a leader, because that would give the left a target to demonize. Let the left attack Sarah Palin, Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. Those attacks will look pathetic because they are pathetic. None of them have ever been in the White House or Congress.
The left will play the race card, but attacking the leader is what happens in a midterm election. They will accuse the GOP (falsely) of not having an alternative governing agenda, but one is not required in a midterm election. In 2006 the Democrats won Congress without offering anything remotely resembling an actual policy. Republicans were in power, and Democrats ran by simply not being Republicans.
As much as it bothers Republicans and conservatives, Obama remains personally likable to many people. Trying to change that perception will fail. Liberals never understood in 2004 that even when people were frustrated with President George W. Bush, they liked him personally and wanted him to succeed. The same was true about Obama in 2012.
The weak link around Obama in 2014 is the same one as in 2010: Her name is Nancy Pelosi. Even though Obama is liked in many areas, Pelosi is universally reviled outside of the hard-left radicals infecting San Francisco and the Upper Westside of Manhattan. She is an albatross around Obama’s neck.
She should be mentioned in every sentence. Her face should be in every campaign commercial. Conservatives must mention the Obama-Pelosi reign of error. People should be reminded that Obama actually gave up on Obamacare. It was left for dead until Pelosi rescued it.
In 2006, her gaffes on the campaign trail forced Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, the real architect behind the 2006 Democratic victories, to practically lock her in a closet and away from television cameras. Emanuel’s orders were very simple. Democrats were to stop being liberals and start being “normal.” He recruited moderate Democrats.
Pelosi placed her brand of fiery liberalism front-and-center in 2010 and oversaw a shellacking. Rather than resign, she hung on. In 2014 she is publicly claiming that Democrats will run on Obamacare. Republicans are licking their chops and praying that she is right. She has a safe San Francisco seat. The few moderate Democrats from 2006 who survived being fired in 2010 will be seething in 2014 at her very existence.
Democrats are facing an electoral bloodbath in 2014 because the party in the White House often faces one in year six. President Ronald Reagan got clobbered in 1986. President Bill Clinton escaped this curse in 1998 only because he lost pretty much everything in 1994.
Under the best of conditions, which Clinton had, avoiding the year six meltdown is a statistical anomaly. Under miserable conditions such as those existing now, Democrats know they will be brutalized at the polls.
They will try and make everything about social issues, and continue the mythical war on women. That does not work in a midterm election.
Republicans must stay focused, hammer Obama, and blame Pelosi for everything.
This strategy works, and reinventing the political wheel is not necessary.
Obama is an incompetent, bungling, corrupt, scandal-plagued leader in absentia. He has failed on domestic and foreign policy, and lacks the ethics necessary to morally lead. Pelosicare (Obamacare) is a failure of epic proportions.
The people already know this. The results are here for all to see. As long as Republicans remind the people that a vote for any Democrat is a vote for a Pelosi speakership, the GOP will clean the left’s clock in 2014.
