- Return to Darkness was a great read. Couldn’t put it down, a real “page turner”. It is a reality based spy novel with lots of politics, conspiracy and “insider stuff”. It is credible and it feels like you are there with Matt Dawson as the tale unfolds.
The use of time line subchapters [headings] with locations is something I have never seen before but it worked extremely well for this novel; made it easier to follow a fairly complex story. [I]
Also liked the inclusion of detailed outlines of military equipment (Sig Arms Sig Pro 2340 .40 caliber automatic, Gulfstream C37A military jet powered by Rolls-Royce BR710A1-10 turbofan engines, Russian T90 [tank], etc., etc.); these added just the right touch of realism.
The author did a good job of researching real events, organizations and international locations and including them in the plot line. Real political figures and media are also interspersed throughout the novel (Fox News, Ann Coulter, etc., etc.,).
This is not primarily a morality tale but the psychological and religious feelings of the characters are well-developed and useful in the telling of the story. The people are, in other words, very interesting participants in the tale.
